Cooper Malanowksi, a native of New York, is a trombonist, composer, and producer currently based in Boston, MA. Guided by the mentorship of Jason Moran, Anna Webber, and James Burton III, Cooper unveils his distinctive voice as both an improviser and composer through the release of his debut album, ‘Summit'.
Cooper spent his formative years immersed in the vibrant jazz scene of New York City, where he learned from a dynamic community of young musicians, including Abdulrahman Amer, Nicola Caminiti, and Domo Branch. In the fall of 2022, Cooper founded his quartet, inBetween, with a mission to explore the space in between various musical genres, and apply those perspectives to his original compositions.
Cooper's unwavering dedication to his craft has propelled him to perform as both a leader and sideman at prestigious venues in New York and Boston, such as The Appel Room, Frederick Lowe Theatre, Shapeshifter Lab, The Lilypad, Jordan Hall, WKCR radio, and internationally at the Barbican Centre. He was a National YoungArts winner in 2019 and 2020, and has shared the stage with internationally renowned artists such as Danilo Perez, Arturo O'Farrill, and Jason Moran.
